LET ME IN LOCKSMITH · PRACTICAL ADVICE
Changing locks after moving home or losing keys
Questions to ask about existing keys, replacement locks and the complete fitted price when moving into a property.
Call to confirm availability and an arrival estimate. Parts and labour are quoted before work starts.
Who could still hold a key?
When moving home, you may not know how many keys exist or who holds them. Missing keys raise a similar question. Discuss the risk and the locks with Mark rather than assuming a new handle changes who can enter. Tenants should confirm permission and arrangements with their landlord before changes.
Rekeying and replacement are different
Rekeying changes the key arrangement inside a compatible lock; replacement fits a different lock or cylinder. Not every lock can be rekeyed, and this site does not promise rekeying for every model. Condition, compatibility and the required security specification affect the suitable option.
Match the lock to the door
A cylinder needs to suit the door hardware and be measured correctly. Security features are not interchangeable across all products. Send photographs of the door and visible lock, and explain whether you want a routine replacement or an upgrade. Avoid purchasing hardware before compatibility has been checked.
Agree the fitted job
Ask which lock is included, how many keys come with it and whether labour and any extra work are covered. Specialist hardware and out-of-hours appointments need their own quote. Mark agrees the total before starting. Check each supplied key and the door operation after the work.
Your next step
For an urgent lockout or an unsecured door, call Mark. For a planned repair, send your postcode, the symptoms and a photograph on WhatsApp. Do not include images of keys or access codes.
