Smart locks: compatibility, power and servicing questions
Before buying a smart lock, check the door, backup access, power requirements and the support available for the exact product.
Call to confirm availability and an arrival estimate. Parts and labour are quoted before work starts.
Start with the door, not the app
A smart lock must suit the existing door, cylinder and locking mechanism. Some products control a cylinder, while others require different hardware. A familiar brand name does not establish compatibility. Send Mark the proposed model and door photographs before buying.
Power cuts and Wi-Fi problems
Operation varies by model. Check the manufacturer’s instructions for battery life, low-battery warnings, offline use and approved backup access. A Wi-Fi outage may affect remote features differently from entry at the door. Do not assume a keypad, fingerprint reader or app will always work without power or a connection.
Permissions and key control
Review who can create access permissions, remove former users and view activity. Use the manufacturer’s supported updates and account protections. Consider what visitors, tenants or family members will use, and how temporary access is revoked. Keep access codes and account details private.
When a smart lock stops responding
Record the model, warning lights and any recent battery or software changes. Follow the manufacturer’s safe checks; avoid repeated resets that may erase settings. Contact Mark to discuss whether inspection or servicing is appropriate. Installation and servicing availability depend on the product; a full replacement should not be assumed without diagnosis.
Your next step
For an urgent lockout or an unsecured door, call Mark. For a planned repair, send your postcode, the symptoms and a photograph on WhatsApp. Do not include images of keys or access codes.
