LET ME IN LOCKSMITH · PRACTICAL ADVICE

Stiff handles, spinning handles and doors that will not lock

Understand common uPVC and composite door symptoms, and what Mark needs to assess before recommending a repair.

Call to confirm availability and an arrival estimate. Parts and labour are quoted before work starts.

A stiff handle or a door that will not close

A door that catches the frame or needs lifting to close may have an alignment problem. A stiff handle can also come from the locking mechanism. Seasonal changes can affect a door, but a temperature change alone does not identify the fault. Do not repeatedly force the handle or key.

A handle that spins or hooks that do not move

A handle turning with little resistance can point to a problem with the handle connection or gearbox. A multipoint system uses several locking points; a failure at one point does not automatically mean the whole door needs replacing. An inspection is needed to identify the affected parts.

Gearbox, mechanism or adjustment?

A gearbox-only repair replaces a central component where compatible parts are available. A full mechanism replacement is different work and may be required when other parts are damaged or a compatible gearbox is unavailable. Door realignment addresses fit; it is not a substitute for replacing a broken component.

What to send and what to check afterwards

Describe when the problem happens, whether the door opens and whether the key turns. Send the handle, door edge and any visible hardware label without dismantling the door. After agreed work, check opening, closing and locking with Mark. Ask what was repaired, which parts were fitted and what aftercare applies.

Your next step

For an urgent lockout or an unsecured door, call Mark. For a planned repair, send your postcode, the symptoms and a photograph on WhatsApp. Do not include images of keys or access codes.
